Arthur Fletcher, the former head of the United Negro College Fund, coined the well-known phrase, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” The slogan goes back more than five decades. It was meant to promote the United Negro College Fund scholarship program for Black students. The slogan has changed to, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in.”
The new campaign’s tagline is called, “Invest in a better future.” The mind, the part of humans that engages in conscious thinking, feeling, and decision-making. In my message, I will talk about how minds affect our lives.
The word mind appears in the Bible 95 times, and the word thoughts appear 83 times. It affects how we relate to ourselves, to other people, to God, and all our circumstances. Also, the way we talk, our attitude, and our emotions. The thoughts we choose to think affect our mood, behavior, and decisions.
We should understand the power of our thoughts and how they are connected to the way we respond to everything in life. Enjoying life begins with the thoughts you choose to think. Think about joining me this Sunday.
Fondly, Lorraine Donahue.
